A story of a girls night and how they look now.

A few weeks ago now I ventured out for dinner with a girlfriend.

Oh, Happy Day! I was excited for weeks thinking about this moment as it had been almost 2 years since I had some uninterrupted girl time.

After a series of failed catch ups attempts due to covid restrictions and sick kids, I had kind of written it off as being an option and focused more on doing outings as a family which I love!

But the day came...and I knew that this was actually going to happen for realsies! The excitement began to build! I scored a last-minute hair appointment for a wash and blow wave. Everything was coming up Eliza!

Slight disaster #1 when Dean picked Frankie up from Childcare - blanket was lost!

Blanket is Frankie's most prized possession...we fear the day that it is gone for good. Dean explained to her childcare educator that it was my first night out in ages and not finding Blanket was not an option! They searched high and low and eventually found it! PHEW!

The kids' dinner went by without a hitch and then I adjourned to the bedroom to get ready!

I pumped the music, I had a long shower, I did my makeup and tried on three different outfits...Haven't dressed up since M's birth really...nothing looks quite right sooooooo Old faithful Leopard dress to the rescue!

Somehow the temperature has risen to 25 degrees and I'm grateful!

Bye Lover!

Bye children!

Get in car. Start said car. Pump tunes and breathe.

It turned out to be the most relaxing car ride to Werribee!

To top it off we both arrived at the same time and I managed to meet Jamie in the car park. Then came the most lovely, 3 hours of uninterrupted chats, a drink (yep just one - that's the reality), and a delicious meal. We talked about everything from kids, to the past, to the future and my heart was full! We vented, we laughed and at times I could have cried.

I didn't even check my phone or take any photos so that was nice - Dean on the other hand was struggling to get our eldest to sleep for hours...I will repay you my love!

Through my early years, girls' nights were alcohol-fueled, dancing messes. During my twenties they were more about meeting people, building relationships with work colleagues, dancing and seeing live music - also alcohol-fueled. My thirties became more about food, great conversation, selfies and less alcohol.

Hows this pic? Circa 2010 #beretsarelife

Post kids they became more about connection and as time can be limited and they were all the more meaningful. It's interesting how it all evolves. All versions of these girls' nights filled my cup and bring a smile to my face when I think of them. They were fun and they forged friendships. They also ended friendships and made me realise who my true friends were. A girls' night doesn't have to be about trying to create the perfect night. Just let the night itself evolve exactly as it is meant to.

Thank you Jamie for making this girls' night one to remember!
