Childhood revisited

I received a pair of rollerskates for Christmas.

I spent hours rolling around as a kid and it was such a memorable time for me. I loved it.

I remember telling Dean about this early on in our relationship and he took me to a roller rink. I struggled so hard!! As an adult my balance was not as awesome, my shins burned like nothing else and while he was doing hot laps I stayed in my slow-paced comfort zone. But it was enough to give me a taste of what I had as a kid.

I used to skate around the deck at our beach house and on the St Kilda foreshore. There used to be a skate hire shop on Fitzroy Street. Hire and skate the day away. This was one of my favourite weekend pastimes. And we can forget the fun factory! The corner of Chaps and Toorak was where it was at for a roller disco! Does that bring back fond memories for anyone else? My smile is wide. What a simpler time.

Fast forward a few decades and that pastime was lost somewhere between working, traveling, love, and starting a family. A small loss for so much gain. But with the way things are now and the start of a new year I've done a lot of reflecting over the past week.

This is me at 10 and I'm pretty sure this was my third pair of rollerskates - notice the size of both my clothes and skates...But the style and those socks I mean c'mon.

Did you have a hobby that you lost somewhere along the way? Have you tried giving it another go as an adult? I encourage you to cos if nothing else it'll be a good story and personally I think we need more of those!

Maybe it's because the last two years have led my mind to revisit activities that can be done easily in your own backyard or at the park. I'm seriously contemplating climbing trees again soon! I used to climb them ALL DAY! I'm not quite as nimble as I used to be but seeing things from above is such an empowering feeling. What could go wrong?

To receive this gift from Dean brought back not only the feeling I got when skating but all the happy memories attached.

So now you can call us the roller fam! Frankie scoots, Dean skateboards and then there is me gliding like an eagle on roller skates...a wobbly one. Maisie is getting some pretty serious FOMO sitting on the sidelines but is getting a ride on scooter for her birthday so soon it'll be all wheels! Not long now my little love!

A new year, a new hobby. One that can thrive no matter what is going on out there in the world. Lots of love to all xo
