The Lockdown Series Part III: Nat

Welcome back to part three, introducing Natalie.

Nat is a glass half full kinda girl. She had her second boy Hudson amidst the lockdowns so I wanted to check in with her and see how she was going. Anyone who is currently pregnant or has given birth in the last year probably feels this a little close to home!

She has also just had an episode on the Australian Birth Stories podcast (ep. 251) - What a rockstar!!! I have known her for years and we still chat frequently on Instagram about anything and everything. There is a lot more to Nat than meets the eye, she's incredibly creative and thrifty. I love being surrounded by such interesting women and how social media continues to connect us when we literally can't get together in the same space. How is the current climate treating Nat and her little fam? Read on to find out more.

How are you coping with each lockdown that presents itself?

The first lockdown was the hardest. Now I feel like I know what to expect. I know how to keep a little sane. It’s like a routine I know now. I don’t like them, it’s not easier, but it is what it is and I don’t want to waste my energy on anything negative.

What mantra/intention are you focusing on during your time at home?

With 2 under 2 and the only parent, just keeping everyone alive and me some sanity I try to focus on things we can do at home, make a roast, brownies, utilise the back yard. And then I plan in my head the adventures we can do when we can. Also going through the house and selling any unwanted stuff!

You have had your second baby Hudson amongst the lockdowns. How has that been for you and Is there anything you’d pass on to expectant or new mums?

My postpartum period with Hudson involved 24 appointments or admissions at the hospital in 34 days. It was a lot. So when lockdown 4 happened I actually welcomed the news of being forced to stay home, I was exhausted at that point. I set strict rules with both boys and my postpartum, one hour for one visitor. I know it feels isolating but to be able to spend hours emerged in your newborn without having to share them, get someone else a coffee or just rest is actually a really nice experience that you’ll look back on. Then when things re-open make the most of the days you can.

What has been your favourite thing or a new hobby to have come out of lockdown (or hibernation as I like to call it)?

I’ve learnt to cook a few things really well, like a roast. Also really good at budgeting but this has proven how important it is. I’ve found some new walking paths, bakeries and I have just gotten creative with how I spend time with family/friends.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

The first few months were hard, I was scared financially and emotionally. But I’ve learnt now how to manage both. I don’t enjoy lockdown or covid but I’m certainly enjoying the time with my boys and my parents when I can see them.

Thank you Nat for sharing with me. How gorgeous is this photo??? I'm not crying...you are xo
