The Lockdown Series Part V: Nick & Alex

Welcome friends!

We are about to come out of hibernation but I am loving keeping these conversations going so here is Part Five of the lockdown series featuring two very special men - Nick and Alex.

When I first met Nick, he was working with one of my besties and was so incredibly kind without having to say a word. His eyes and energy were just happy and I knew I needed that in my life. Not long after we met I ended up getting a job at the same company and a beautiful friendship blossomed. Working in high-end furniture Nick is your go-to guy! His own home is magic, be sure to check out his Instagram for all your interior and style inspo!

Alex is the founder and creative mind behind Theodore (formerly Mr. Theodore) which is officially Australia's largest wedding directory of LGBTQI+ supporting wedding suppliers. He offers an amazing wedding planning service and also has a publication that is definitely worth a read! This brand breaks down barriers and ensures all couples planning their weddings are treated equally and with love.

They are the modern-day power couple exuding grace, hilarity, and the kind of warmth that really makes a difference to your day. There is never any judgement when in their company and you're guaranteed to be well feed and watered (only it'll be alcohol - you'll be well alcoholed?) when they entertain you in their home - Alex is the BEST cook!

Let's see what they had to say.

How have you been coping with each lockdown that has presented itself? In particular the latest and longest one.

Overall we have managed well through lockdown, we have been in fortunate positions to both still be able to work through which we are very thankful for as this hasn’t been the case for everyone. We are also both big homebodies and even after two years of on and off lockdowns we’ve still managed to enjoy our time together and make the most of the slower pace. What mantra/intention are you focusing on during your time at home?

I’d say we have really focused on enjoying the little things and not taking things for granted that we may have before. Also being more grateful for friends and family and for each day that comes.

Navigating work through lockdown has been a challenge. Alex - Working closely with weddings being such a happy time, especially the planning, how has it been working with couples and your directory members during this time?

It’s definitely been a challenging time, there's no sugar coating that. Especially considering weddings have been put on hold for such a long time. The exciting thing though is that we always knew that as soon as lockdown ends, weddings would bounce back and the industry would go back the being busy. This downtime has been exciting in the fact that both couples and wedding businesses have used this time to rethink the wedding format and explore new ways of doing things and how weddings will look moving out of this. It’s been great to see how the industry is evolving and how things will change - for the better. Nick - Working with high-end furniture have you noticed any trends in what people are buying? I think what the pandemic/lockdowns have shown people is the importance of home and having an environment you want to spend your time in and enjoy. Due to this, I have found people have really invested in doing so, whether it’s completely re-doing a space or investing in a few key pieces.

Any new hobbies?

Our main new hobby is going for long walks which we have really enjoyed, one for change of scenery but we have also found it’s a good few hours away from phones and TVs where we can escape the news or mindless scrolling and tv to have meaningful conversations and enjoy each other’s company. That and lots of eating and drinking haha!

Favourite Netflix lockdown find?

Well, what haven’t we watched, but that said a few standouts for us that we really enjoyed were, Nine Perfect Strangers, Morning Wars, Pose, Atlantic Crossing (none of which were on Netflix I don’t think haha) currently watching Impeachment and our guilty pleasure…. The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills. Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I think a little something to add is that we both can’t wait to have some normality back and I think there will be great energy and positivity in people moving forward.

Well, that was a delight to read and seriously...aren't they gorgeous! Thank you both for sharing your lockdown vibes with me. I am feeling the same about great energy and positivity moving forward and after reading this really can't wait to see you guys again!

Wishing you all a safe and happy coming out of lockdown week, see ya soon when Regional opens xo
