What Christmas means to me.

Updated: Dec 4, 2021

Recently at a dinner I attended I was asked the question. What's Christmas for you?

We went around the table and everyone's response was different and meaningful. I found it really fascinating and have been asking everyone I've seen since.

Christmas is my favourite time of year. It's a host of different things that make it my fave. The year is coming to a conclusion so that invokes reflection. The weather warms up which brings out the happy even for the grinches around. So what is Christmas to me? Read on x

Step 1 Christmas starts for me by creating a Christmas playlist. Music has always been a big part of my life so naturally, it starts here. I make a new playlist every year even if it's full of the same songs. I always add a new album or new song that I love. My favourite Christmas album? Hands down John Legend - A Legendary Christmas. Mate...I love it!!! So far my playlist is 7 hours and 4 minutes long. Is that enough?

Step 2

Next, I do the tree. I dress up to make it all the more special, put on the Christmas music and decorate the tree. Having the girls has added a whole new dynamic. This year Frankie understood a lot more and helped and it was so much fun. We have however had to fence it off as Maisie wants to pull everything off, pull the tree over, destroy, destroy, destroy!

Step 3

Then it's the movies. The hallmark ones on prime are the best. They are heartwarming with just the right amount of cheese. But this morning I noticed Netflix has a Christmas challenge so look out tv when nap times come around.

Dermot...you just get me.

Step 4

Supporting and giving to those less fortunate. This year I want to get Frankie involved so we are going to do the Kmart Wishing tree appeal. I have lived an incredibly fortunate life and from a young age have always loved making people smile and being a small part in making a difference in people's lives no matter how big or small. It is important to me to pass this on to my girls.

Step 5

Sharing special moments with family and friends. Reflecting on the year that was, sharing a drink or a meal and just being together.

There is nothing more special at Christmas than sitting down for a meal with my family on Christmas day with the daggy Christmas cracker hats, champagne and plates loaded high all day (note to self and all those attending wear fat pants or flowy dress). I love having friends over that may not be sharing the day with their family for whatever reason. It has become a tradition and our door and hearts are open to you.

So I ask you, what is Christmas for you? xo

Sending love to all who may not enjoy this time of year for whatever reason.
